Vegan Kebab Meat
This viral doner meat recipe has been doing the rounds on Tiktok- I believe this is the original video. So I of course had to veganise it!
This kebab consists of thin layers of spiced ‘meat’ which goes perfect on a flatbread with salad and garlic sauce.
This is an easy recipe made with accessible ingredients- no vital wheat gluten here just TVP, plain flour and some seasonings give you this delicious, savoury, meaty kebab meat.
TVP is super high protein depending on the brand giving up to 50g protein per 100g.
This recipe is much lower in saturated fat than its meaty counterpart so essentially you could say this is a ‘healthy kebab’.
So give it a go- you can have a great takeaway style kebab but plant based and at home.

Serving suggestions- I love this served in a pita with homemade garlic sauce, lettuce, suman onions and some Turkish chilli and pickles. Bonus points for some Turkish pepper paste in there too. Another great use is to make loaded fries with salad and garlic sauce and chilli sauce.
Why you'll love this vegan doner recipe
Healthier option- TVP is high in protein and has low saturated fat and no cholesterol compared to a meat kebab.
Meal prep friendly- This doner kebab meat can be made in bulk and stored in the fridge or freezer for when you want it.
Affordable- TVP is one of the most affordable plant based proteins out there and you likely have most of the other ingredients in your pantry already.
Delicious- This vegan kebab meat is so full of flavour, I guarantee you will love it if you were a fan of a kebab before going vegan.

Air frying instructions
You can air fry these, if you have a smaller air fryer split the mixture into 2 balls and rolls them on smaller parchment paper. Air fry for 10 minutes on 180C then remove from the paper and air fry for a further 5 minutes to crisp up.
Notes on the ingredients-
- TVP- Stands for textured vegetable protein made from soy. It’s a great dried vegan protein that is affordable and versatile. It’s meaty and works well for this doner meat. You can also use tofu in place of TVP just don’t ad the water.
- Plain flour- Plain flour binds the mix together to make it into a shape able mix that holds its shape once rolled out. You can sub this for gluten free flour to make it GF.
- Onion- Any onion is fine. Only use fresh as this adds moisture to the mix.
- Olive oil- The oil keeps it juicy. You can use any oil you like.
- Light soy sauce- Light soy sauce adds a little colour and savoury flavour. You can use dark soy sauce but the colour will look a little darker
- Ground flax seed- Flax seed acts as a binder to keep the mix together.
- Mushroom seasoning- Mushroom seasoning is the best plant based savory flavor seasoning. You can buy this from Asian stores or order online. You could use vegan beef stock powder instead.
